The new cd by Mark Trueack and Friends, ‘Save Us.’ It’s an EP of 5 songs covering 34 minutes, and Mark’s first solo release. Mark is the lead singer/songwriter/producer of Unitopia, and the United Progressive Fraternity. There’s a limited pressing of 300 albums in addition to the cd and digital options. ‘Save Us’ was inspired by the flooding last year of Mark’s cafe restaurant in Thailand, where the Australian native now lives. Mark’s strong, emotional voice gives life to his very personal lyrics about ecology, learning a new culture, and saving our beautiful planet and ourselves. I just love Mark’s deep, expressive singing voice and style, here and on all of his previous work. Great singing, music, orchestration and production abound on this release.
Friend musicians include keyboardist Patrick Moraz (Yes, The Moody Blues), who co-wrote “Save Us;” drummer Chester Thompson (Genesis); Stick player Don Schiff (Rocket Scientists); singer Michelle Young (Glass Hammer); keyboardist Dave Kerzner (Sound of Contact, In Continuum); guitarist/bassist Fernando Perdomo (Marshall Crenshaw, Dave Kerzner); sax player Jamison Smeltz (Ten Ton Chicken, others), and members of Unitopia and UPF, including guitarist John Greenwood. The musical VIP is Steve Unruh, who adds beautiful flute and/or violin on all tracks. Produced by Mark Trueack, artwork & graphics by Ed Unitsky. Released on Feb. 1, available from Bandcamp.com, and https://thebandwagonusa.com/collections/mark-trueack. My rating: 9 out of 10.
