‘The war is against plastic and they are casualties on the frontline’

Following his shocking photographs of dead albatross chicks and the diet of plastic that killed them, Chris Jordan’s film “Albatross” is a call to action to repair our broken relationship with planet Earth.

ALBATROSS (97 minutes) is a powerful visual journey into the heart of a gut-wrenching environmental tragedy. On one of the remotest islands on Earth, tens of thousands of albatross chicks lie dead on the ground, their bodies filled with plastic. Returning to the island over several years, Chris and his filming team witnessed cycles of birth, life, and death of these magnificent creatures as a multi-layered metaphor for our times. ALBATROSS walks us through the fire of horror and grief, facing the immensity of this tragedy — and our own complicity — head on. And in this process, we find an unexpected route to a deeply felt experience of beauty and love for the miracle of life on Earth. Stepping outside the stylistic templates of traditional environmental or documentary films, ALBATROSS takes viewers on a lyrical guided tour into the depths of their own spirits, delivering a profound message of reverence and renewal that is already reaching an audience of millions of people around the world.

UPF invites you to share ALBATROSS in person with your friends, family, colleagues, students, etc., in your home, workplace, classroom, or a local theater. https://www.albatrossthefilm.com/

Chris Jordan is an internationally acclaimed artist whose work explores contemporary mass culture from multiple perspectives, connecting the viewer viscerally to the enormity and power of humanity’s collective unconscious. Edge-walking the lines between beauty and horror, abstraction and representation, the near and the far, the visible and the invisible, his works challenge us to look both inward and outward at the complex landscapes of our collective choices. His work reaches an increasingly broad audience through his exhibitions, books, website, interviews on radio and television, and speaking engagements and school visits all over the world.

We wish to thank Chris for allowing use of albatrossthefilm photos and movie trailer footage in support of the message of Planetary Overload.
